Job Description

Position Title: Cedar Foundation Tanzania Project Manager
Reports to: Operations Manager
Location: Mwanza/Kamanga Office
Type of Company: Not for profit Company
Hours: Full time, 9-5 pm


Overview: The role of the Project Manager is to lead on the delivery of projects – in particular SASA!, a Violence Against Women program – and to provide community based support to specific communities targeted by these projects. Project management methodologies should be used to ensure that project interventions are being delivered successfully, that projects objectives are met and reported efficiently to funders. The Project Manager will also be expected to undertake some field work and frontline delivery of projects as well as the management of tasks and coordination of the field team.

Job Duties:

Project management (in particular of SASA!, a Violence Against Women prevention program)
• Create and take ownership of project documentation (e.g. project plans, budgets and monitoring and evaluation frameworks).
• Use project documentation to track the progress of projects, and to manage the team implementing the project by allocating tasks and timescales on a regular basis.
• Meet with the project team regularly to review progress and to drive the project forwards, supporting members of the team in finding solutions to any issues that may occur.
• Report on project activities and project spend to the wider team, the Board of Directors and funders on a regular basis.

Project implementation
• Implement appropriate field activities as defined in the project plans alongside the rest of the Field Team.
• Be the main point of contact for project beneficiaries and for members of the local community where Cedar Tz is operating
• Liase with the community to deliver project tasks – e.g. participate in appropriate local fora and community groups; form, participate in and coordinate training groups for members of the local community, identify and engage key project stakeholders in the community
• Act as a focal point for local government officials for operational and implementation issues related to the project;
• Assist with events organisation
• Work with the Communications Officer to raise awareness of The Cedar Foundation’s projects using a range of media

Project Monitoring and Evaluation
• Regularly monitor project activity implementation and share reports with the wider team
• Coordinate the collection and organisation of data necessary for the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of project as per the M&E framework
• Ensure data quality and coordinate data entry when necessary

People Management
• Line manage the staff and volunteers in the Field Team – set, review and provide feedback on objectives in line with organisational workplans
• Support members of the Field Team in their work, assisting them where there are challenges and empowering them to deliver tasks with confidence
• Report on the progress of members of the Field Team to the Operations Manager and the Board of Directors
• Facilitate the professional development of the Field Team by recognising strengths, weaknesses and ambitions and encouraging further training and opportunities to learn.

Project Development

• Work with the wider team to suggest new project ideas and to provide operational input to their design
• Help develop ideas for new funding applications
• Where necessary, assist with funding applications by providing field-based evidence and ideas

Person specification:

• Excellent ability to establish dialogue with the local community to develop an understanding of local requirements/constraints and issues to be considered under project activities.
• Excellent ability to be flexible and to think quickly of solutions when challenges present themselves – both with the community and the rest of the Cedar Tanzania team
• A supportive attitude with other members of the team
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent command of the English language both reading and writing
• Fluency in Kiswahili
• Excellent IT skills including Word and Excel.
• Good understanding of project management methodologies


• Knowledge and experience of delivering the SASA! Program, a Violence Against Women prevention program originally developed by Raising Voices in Uganda.
• Experience of working in the Not for Profit sector.
• Community Development qualification
• Degree or equivalent (Eg: NVQ/Diploma)
